Sweet Potatoes…sweet potatoes are high in potassium, iron, magnesium, and vitamin E. The great thing about sweet potatoes is that they taste so good that your child won’t even know that they’re good for them. I love to bake sweet potato casseroles for dinner. Just add chopped onions, carrots, and bell pepper, bake, and add a bit of honey. It’s a great combination of taste and health. If you haven’t had sweet potatoes, you’re missing out!


Fruits and Vegetables…and I’m not talking about candy, either! Most fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Try out some fresh oranges, apples, and bananas. You’ll enjoy the vitamins and minerals, as well as the delicious taste of these food sources of healthy carbohydrates.


Back, to eating well. If you’re missing out on the healthy food sources of carbohydrates in your diet, don’t get frustrated. You can easily remedy the situation by simply adding more of the good carbs to your diet. For example, try swapping brown rice for whole wheat pasta; swap popcorn for fresh-ground nuts; and snack on walnuts instead of potato chips.


Don’t think that you have to give up all of your favorite foods just because you’re cutting out the bad carbs. Most of the time, it’s just a matter of replacing the bad food sources with healthier alternatives. And believe me, you’ll thank yourself for it when you see your weight come back down after the holidays!
